Supplier Principles

For future and current merchandise partners. Every product that carries the Thomas Dambo name is an extension of the universe, and every partner is held to the same standard.

We don't make merchandise. We build a movement through products.

01 / Our Guiding Principle

We prioritize reuse over perfection.

This sentence sits above every decision we make. If a product, a material, or a partnership doesn't honour it, we walk away.

02 / The Eight Principles

How we choose what to make

01
Reuse First
Reuse is our most important principle.
We aim for 30–100% recycled materials and prioritize upcycling whenever possible. Material composition must be documented; harmful materials are avoided.
02
Product First
The product must stand on its own.
If it's not something people genuinely want to use or wear, we don't make it. Genuinely good and on-brand, built to last. No visible supplier branding.
03
Responsible Production
We do not accept child labour or heavily polluting production.
Ethical working conditions are non-negotiable. At the same time, we prioritize reuse over perfect production geography.
04
Pragmatic Sustainability
If reuse is not possible, we accept alternatives.
Organic or sustainable materials are welcome, but only when the product is strong and relevant.
05
Local Where It Matters
Production close to the sales market, whenever possible.
We design supply chains that reduce transport and environmental impact.
06
Circular Thinking
Designed for a long second life.
Products should be designed for long life, reuse, or transformation. Waste is not part of the system.
07
Transparency
If we can't explain it, we don't produce it.
Partners must know and govern every step of production, from raw material to finished product, and provide documentation on request.
08
Built to Scale
Partners who can grow with us.
We look for partners who can scale with us, without compromising quality or values.
03 / Product Standards

The floor, in practice

Beyond the eight principles, every product carrying the Thomas Dambo name must meet these concrete standards.

Print & Decoration
Screenprint / silkscreen by default.
Water-based, PVC-free inks. DTG for illustrative artwork where screenprint doesn't fit the design. Embroidery for premium pieces. DTF is not accepted unless clearly justified.
Quality Benchmark
Highest quality possible.
Apparel and accessories should feel like something people already own and reach for. Weight, hand-feel and construction all count.
Material Documentation
Compositions on file.
Recycled content, fiber composition, ink chemistry and country of manufacture documented per SKU. If we can't account for it, we won't make it.
Branding & Design
Thomas's universe first.
No visible supplier branding on the product. Co-branding is reserved for strong collaborations and requires prior written approval.
04 / Yes or No

What we say yes and no to

Every proposal ends in a yes or a no. The criteria are simple.

Yes
  • A strong, on-brand product
  • Minimum 30–50% recycled content, documented
  • Ethical production, transparent supply chain
  • Quality that fits the Thomas Dambo universe
No
  • No recycled content
  • Off-brand product or design
  • Unacceptable working conditions
  • Undocumented materials or supply chain
05 / Get in Touch

Start with an intro

If you think there's a fit, start with a short introduction email. Tell us who you are, what you make, and why you believe your product or capability belongs in the Thomas Dambo universe.

All proposals go to morten@thomasdambo.com. If we see a fit, the conversation moves through these steps.

  1. 01
    Intro email
A short introduction: who you are, what you make, and why you think you fit.
  2. 02
    First conversation
If we see a fit, we come back to talk. Product idea, materials approach, and where you sit in the supply chain.
  3. 03
    Samples & documentation
We ask for product samples and material documentation. Recycled content, sourcing, chemistry, country of manufacture.
  4. 04
    Scope & alignment
We align on product scope, minimums, lead times, quality standards and commercial terms.
  5. 05
    Partnership
Agreement in place, first product into production. Strong proposals typically move quickly.
06 / Compliance & Product Classification

Non-negotiable regulatory floor

  • CPSC eFiling (US). Regulatory filing responsibility for imports into the United States rests with the importer or licensee, not with Thomas Dambo Art ApS. Partners are expected to have their own compliance process in place.
  • Children's products & toys. Any product that could be classified as a children's product or toy under US or EU rules requires prior written approval from Thomas Dambo Art. Absent that approval, we do not produce it.
  • Chemical & material safety. Compositions, inks, dyes and coatings must comply with market-relevant regulations (REACH in the EU, CPSIA in the US where applicable).
  • Documentation on request. Partners must be able to produce compliance documentation on request. If it can't be produced, the product is off the table.
One Last Thing

This is not about making merchandise. It's about building a movement through products.
